J&K LG Vows Heavy Price for Pakistan’s Terror Acts

J&K LG Warns Pakistan of Severe Retribution

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha issued a stern warning to Pakistan on August 12, 2025, declaring that the “terrorist country” would face a “very heavy price” for any attacks on Indian citizens. Speaking at the ‘Pedal for Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ rally organized by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Srinagar ahead of India’s 79th Independence Day, Sinha highlighted India’s retaliatory operations, Mahadev and Sindoor, as evidence of the nation’s resolve against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. His remarks come amid heightened tensions following the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, prompting India to suspend parts of the Indus Waters Treaty and target terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The BSF rally, attended by 79 cyclists—40 local youths and 39 BSF personnel—symbolized unity and patriotism, with Sinha felicitating participants for inspiring the youth to join security forces. Earlier, he flagged off a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ from Dal Lake to the Botanical Garden, joining thousands in honoring the national flag.

Paying tribute to the Pahalgam victims, Sinha lauded the armed forces and Jammu Kashmir Police for their role in Operation Mahadev, which eliminated three senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commanders on July 28 near Srinagar, and Operation Sindoor, which struck terror bases across the border in May. “We have exacted revenge for Pakistan’s brutality,” he said, urging vigilance against divisive elements threatening peace.

Sinha emphasized India’s unity, describing its 140 crore citizens as a “big family” dedicated to nation-building. “The tricolor is my dharma, my strength, my heartbeat,” he declared, calling for renewed commitment to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and soldiers. He released a monograph honoring J&K martyrs, including Kargil war heroes, and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for ushering in inclusive development in the region. “From Jhelum to Chenab, from Pir Panjal to Harmukh, the echo of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ resounds,” he said, noting a rising generation devoted to India’s glory.

The Pahalgam attack, executed in Baisaran meadow, was one of the deadliest in recent years, with LeT claiming responsibility. India’s response, including Operation Sindoor, reportedly destroyed LeT training camps in PoK, drawing global scrutiny. Posts on X reflect polarized sentiments: some Indian users hailed Sinha’s stance, with @ANI quoting his call for a “prosperous J&K,” while others criticized Pakistan’s alleged terror support, citing its history with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed. Pakistani users, including @PTI_News, countered by accusing India of escalating tensions through treaty violations, echoing Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s claim that the IWT suspension threatens 200 million lives.

Sinha’s speech also addressed local aspirations, encouraging youth to join the BSF, Army, and police to uphold J&K’s progress. The region has seen a 40% drop in terror incidents since 2019, per Home Ministry data, but the Pahalgam attack underscored persistent threats. The LG’s call for unity and vigilance aligns with India’s broader strategy to counter cross-border terrorism, with the BSF reporting 15 infiltration attempts foiled along the LoC in 2025.

As J&K marches toward stability, Sinha’s warning signals India’s readiness to respond decisively, while his appeal to patriotism aims to rally citizens for a peaceful, prosperous future.
