J&K LG Manoj Sinha Urges Public Support To Eradicate Drug Abuse

LG Manoj Sinha urges collective action as J&K intensifies crackdown on drug abuse and narco-terror networks.

Manoj Sinha on Sunday called for collective public action to combat drug abuse and narco-terrorism, urging citizens to work together to build a society free from addiction. Addressing a gathering at the TRC Football Ground, the Lieutenant Governor emphasised the need for unified efforts to protect communities and future generations from the growing drug menace.

Speaking at the launch of a signature campaign against substance abuse, Sinha underscored that every contribution matters in the fight against drugs. He urged people to envision a region where no child falls victim to addiction, no family is torn apart, and communities are free from the influence of traffickers. He highlighted that sustained public participation is critical to achieving long-term success in eradicating the problem.

The Lieutenant Governor also led a two-kilometre padyatra as part of the awareness initiative, encouraging individuals from all sections of society to actively commit to the anti-drug movement. He called on citizens to take a pledge to continue the fight until Jammu and Kashmir becomes entirely drug-free, stressing that collective resolve is key to defeating narco-terrorism.

Addressing the youth directly, Sinha warned against the dangers of substance abuse, stating that drugs are not a symbol of modernity but a threat that undermines freedom and potential. He urged young people to channel their energy into constructive pursuits such as sports, skill development, and nation-building activities, positioning them as central to the region’s future.

Detailing government action, Sinha said stringent measures are being implemented under a new standard operating procedure. Between April 11 and May 2, authorities registered 481 FIRs and arrested 518 individuals involved in drug trafficking. Additionally, 24 properties linked to criminal activities were demolished, while assets worth crores were seized. In Kashmir alone, 26 such property attachments were recorded.

Further enforcement steps include recommendations to cancel over 300 driving licences and 325 vehicle registrations linked to drug-related offences. Nearly 3,000 drug stores were inspected, resulting in 107 licence suspensions and one FIR. Sinha said these actions reflect a strict “zero tolerance” policy, driven by coordinated efforts between law enforcement and civil administration, with public cooperation playing a decisive role in dismantling the drug supply network.
