Jharkhand Lightning Kills Five in 24 Hours, IMD Issues Orange Alert for 13 Districts

Five killed in Jharkhand lightning strikes across four districts as IMD issues orange alert.

At least five people, including a 12-year-old girl and two women, lost their lives in separate lightning strike incidents across Jharkhand over the past 24 hours as heavy rains and thunderstorms swept through several parts of the state. Police officials confirmed that the fatalities were reported from Ranchi, Garhwa, Dhanbad, and Bokaro districts amid intense weather activity that continued from Friday into Saturday.

According to officials, Garhwa district recorded two deaths, while Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Bokaro reported one fatality each. One of the victims was 12-year-old Ashrita, who was struck by lightning while collecting mangoes with her parents in Kulli village under the Itki Police Station area in Ranchi district on Friday. The incident occurred during a thunderstorm, and while the girl died on the spot, her parents sustained injuries and were admitted to a nearby health center for treatment.

The severe weather system brought widespread rainfall to large parts of Jharkhand, providing relief from the intense summer heat that had prevailed in recent weeks. Meteorological data indicated a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures across the state following the rains. However, the accompanying lightning and thunderstorms posed significant risks, particularly in rural areas where people were engaged in outdoor activities during the storm.

Disaster management teams and local administrations continue to monitor the situation as weather officials forecast further rain and thunderstorm activity in parts of the state over the coming days.
