Jharkhand Honors Shibu Soren: Grand 'Shraddh' Planned in Ancestral Village
Jharkhand prepares grand ‘Shraddh’ for JMM founder Shibu Soren in ancestral village.
Elaborate preparations have been made for the 'Shraddh' ceremony of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) co-founder and former Chief Minister Shibu Soren in his ancestral village of Nemra, Ramgarh district, approximately 70 km from Ranchi, on Saturday, August 16, 2025. The 81-year-old tribal leader, affectionately known as 'Guruji,' passed away in a Delhi hospital, leaving behind a legacy that shaped Jharkhand’s creation and elevated the tribal movement to national prominence.
The ceremony, expected to draw significant public participation, including dignitaries like Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, is supported by extensive logistical and security arrangements. Over 2,500 police personnel, 10 IPS officers, 60 deputy superintendents, and 65 inspectors have been deployed, alongside a dedicated control room in Nemra to manage crowd safety and traffic. Multi-agency teams, including police, administrative staff, and volunteers, will ensure 24/7 crowd management, emergency response, and law enforcement.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, stationed in Nemra since August 5, has overseen arrangements to honor tribal customs, including transportation, sanitation, food distribution, healthcare, and accommodation. Over 300 e-rickshaws will ferry attendees from three large parking zones equipped with bio-toilets, rest areas, and pedestrian pathways. Three dining pandals will serve traditional 'Shraddh' meals and prasad.

The ceremony underscores the profound respect for Soren’s legacy, with the JMM and Jharkhand community coming together to honor a towering figure in the state’s history.
