Jammu And Kashmir Landmine Explosion Leaves Two Army Personnel Injured During Operation

Two Army personnel were injured after a landmine exploded near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said. The incident occurred near the Upper Garh Forward Post in the Kamalkote sub-sector, an area under the operational control of the 12 Infantry Brigade. The injured soldiers were immediately evacuated and shifted to a military hospital for treatment, with their condition reported to be stable. According to officials, the explosion took place in the vicinity of the forward post manned by the 8 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) unit while the soldiers were carrying out their duties near the LoC.

The troops responded quickly after the blast and arranged medical assistance for the injured personnel. The two soldiers were later airlifted to the Army’s Base Hospital at Badamibagh in Srinagar, where they are currently receiving treatment. The injured personnel have been identified as Havildar Vijay Kumar and Naik Sharanapa Angari. Both soldiers are part of the 8 Rashtriya Rifles and were deployed in the sensitive border area when the incident occurred. Officials said medical teams are monitoring their condition, and they remain under observation following the injuries sustained in the explosion.

Preliminary information suggests that the blast may have been caused by an old anti-personnel mine that was accidentally triggered during routine patrolling activities. Several areas along the LoC contain landmines placed during earlier periods of heightened military activity, and such incidents occasionally occur despite safety measures and regular monitoring by security forces. The exact circumstances leading to the explosion are being investigated by the Army.

Officials are examining whether the mine was part of an existing defensive arrangement or whether other factors contributed to the incident. A detailed assessment will be carried out after reviewing the site and gathering information from personnel present in the area at the time of the blast. The Uri sector, located close to the LoC, remains one of the strategically important areas for the Indian Army due to its challenging terrain and security sensitivity. Troops deployed in the region regularly conduct patrols and surveillance operations to maintain security along the border.

The difficult geographical conditions and presence of unexploded ordnance from past deployments pose additional risks for personnel operating in the area. The Army has not reported any further casualties in connection with the incident. As the investigation continues, officials are focusing on determining the cause of the explosion and ensuring necessary precautions are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. The injured soldiers continue to receive medical care, with authorities expressing confidence in their recovery.
