Jaishankar Praises PM Modi’s Leadership, Vision And Commitment At BRICS Summit

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday described the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi as a “resounding success”, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, vision and commitment for bringing together countries from diverse geographical regions and cultural backgrounds. He said the summit, held as BRICS marked its 20th year, provided an opportunity for members to find common ground, bridge differences and maintain open and constructive dialogue.

Jaishankar said the outcome of the summit reflected a shared resolve among BRICS countries to advance the interests of the Global South. He highlighted the progress made in building consensus despite differences among participating nations, noting that the discussions focused on areas of common interest. According to the External Affairs Minister, the summit also reinforced the importance of cooperation and dialogue among countries facing a rapidly changing global environment.

The External Affairs Minister further said the summit produced a robust consensus and conveyed a message of a strong and united BRICS committed to representing the interests of the Global South. He credited Indian teams for working continuously to prepare for the summit and said their efforts contributed to its successful conduct. Jaishankar also pointed to the wider international response to Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on peace, dialogue and diplomacy, saying these principles found resonance during the summit.

As BRICS chair in 2026, India hosted the two-day 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 12 to 13. The meeting brought together leaders of BRICS member countries, partner nations and outreach invitees. The grouping currently comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, while Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are partner countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his concluding remarks, said the discussions had strengthened the belief that BRICS had evolved beyond a conventional grouping into an “ecosystem of solutions”. He called for the outcomes of the summit, including the New Delhi Declaration, to be translated into time-bound action and tangible results. Modi also expressed gratitude to participating leaders for their contributions, saying their ideas had added depth to cooperation within the grouping.

With BRICS preparing to enter its third decade, Modi said the world now expected concrete results rather than only ideas and commitments from the grouping. He expressed confidence that member countries would work collectively to meet these expectations and also extended his best wishes to China, the next host of BRICS. He commended the participating leaders and their teams for contributing to the success of the New Delhi Summit.
