Jagan, Sharmila Pay Tribute on YSR's Death Anniversary
YSR’s children pay emotional tributes on 16th anniversary.
On the 16th death anniversary of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, fondly known as YSR, his children—YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila—paid heartfelt tributes to the former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh at his memorial in Kadapa district. YSR, who served from 2004 to 2009, tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in the Nallamala forest on September 2, 2009, leaving behind a towering legacy of welfare initiatives.
Jagan, joined by his mother YS Vijayamma, wife, relatives, and supporters, offered prayers at YSR’s grave at the YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya. In an emotional post on X, Jagan wrote, “Missing you (YSR) much,” reflecting the deep personal and political void left by his father. YSR’s flagship schemes, such as Rajiv Aarogyasri for free healthcare, Indiramma Illu for welfare housing, and fee reimbursement programs, transformed the lives of millions across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, earning him enduring admiration.
Sharmila, paying her respects at the same memorial, described her father’s life as “extraordinary,” emphasizing the lasting impact of his welfare programs. Speaking to reporters, she expressed gratitude for the overwhelming public affection for YSR, noting, “Nearly 700 individuals, unable to bear my father’s loss, passed away. I offer tributes to their families.” She highlighted how his schemes continue to uplift communities even 16 years later.
