Jab at Shinde More Important Than Chatrapati Shivaji? Uddhav Slams BJP

Uddhav Slams Maharashtra Govt Over Kamra Summons, Silence on Solapurkar

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray lashed out at the Maharashtra government on Thursday, accusing it of double standards in handling comedian Kunal Kamra and actor Rahul Solapurkar.

Speaking to reporters after the Budget session concluded, Thackeray criticized the state for summoning Kamra twice for a parody song targeting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde—whom he called a “traitor”—while ignoring Solapurkar’s alleged insult to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Kamra faced police summons after Shinde’s supporters attacked a Mumbai studio on Sunday over his satirical take on the deputy CM, who split Shiv Sena in 2022 to join the BJP-led coalition.

Meanwhile, Solapurkar stirred controversy on a podcast by claiming Shivaji Maharaj bribed Mughal officials to escape Agra Fort, contradicting the popular narrative of hiding in a sweet basket. Right-wing groups condemned the remark, yet no action has followed. “You target Kamra but spare Solapurkar,” Thackeray charged, highlighting the disparity.

Thackeray also took aim at the BJP’s ‘Saugat-e-Modi’ outreach to Muslim families, accusing the party of hypocrisy. “When Shiv Sena won Muslim support, they cried ‘Satta-Jihad’ and accused me of abandoning Hindutva. Now, they’re doing the same,” he said, pointing to the BJP’s shift in stance.

The former CM’s remarks underscore the deepening political rift in Maharashtra, with Shiv Sena (UBT) framing the government as selective in its crackdowns while pivoting on ideological grounds for electoral gain.
