Isolated Thundershowers Cool Down Andhra Pradesh After Temperatures Hit 38°C

Thundershowers bring relief to Andhra Pradesh residents after a week of intense 36°C-38°C heatwave conditions.

After a week of intense heatwave-like conditions across Andhra Pradesh, sudden thundershowers on Wednesday provided much-needed relief to residents, with temperatures dipping sharply in several areas. The rainfall helped ease the scorching weather, which had pushed daytime temperatures to between 36°C and 38°C.

Statewide, maximum temperatures had remained consistently high over the past week, with averages recorded at 36°C on March 12, 37°C on March 13, 38°C on March 14, 37°C on March 15, 38°C on March 16, 37°C on March 17, and 36°C on March 18. The sustained heat had made daily life uncomfortable, particularly in urban centers.

In Vijayawada and surrounding areas, temperatures reached around 38°C on multiple days, adding to public discomfort. Meteorologists noted that the combination of persistent heat and atmospheric moisture contributed to thundercloud formation, triggering sudden rainfall.

However, the showers were uneven and sporadic, affecting only select districts. Coastal Andhra and certain interior regions experienced rainfall, while several other districts remained dry. Experts emphasized that the rain was confined to isolated pockets rather than widespread across the state.

According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, thunderstorm activity intensified from the afternoon hours, with rainfall continuing until midnight in some areas. Districts including NTR, Krishna, West Godavari, Eluru, and Prakasam reported moderate to heavy rains accompanied by lightning, while Konaseema, Sri Sathya Sai, and Nandyal districts experienced moderate rainfall with lightning activity.

While the showers offered temporary relief from the scorching temperatures, residents are advised to remain cautious as meteorologists predict that heatwave conditions could return in the coming days in areas that did not receive rainfall. The rain, however, has been welcomed as a reprieve for both the public and agricultural activities.
