Iran to Lodge FIFA Complaint Over World Cup Restrictions Amid Governance Row

Iran’s national football team is preparing to file a formal complaint with FIFA over what it describes as restrictive travel arrangements during the ongoing World Cup in North America. The Iranian football federation has alleged that logistical decisions taken by tournament organisers have interfered with the team’s ability to follow its planned preparation schedule. A spokesperson for the Iranian football federation said the team had submitted its full travel and training itinerary well in advance of the tournament. Despite this, he claimed that several requests linked to movement between base camps and match venues had been restricted, disrupting the technical staff’s intended preparation plan during the group stage.

The immediate dispute centres on Iran’s request to travel from its base camp in Tijuana, Mexico, to Los Angeles in the United States two days before its next match against Belgium. The match is scheduled for Sunday at 12:00 pm local time in Los Angeles, making pre-match preparation time a key concern for the team’s coaching staff. According to the federation, the request for early travel was denied by tournament organisers. Team officials had argued that arriving earlier in Los Angeles would have allowed players sufficient time to adapt to local conditions, complete their final training session, and finalise tactical preparations ahead of the important fixture.

The Iranian camp said that the denial of the request has raised concerns about fairness and consistency in logistical arrangements across participating teams. Officials argue that travel timing can significantly affect player recovery, acclimatisation to weather conditions, and overall readiness for competitive matches, particularly in a tightly scheduled international tournament. In its planned complaint to FIFA, Iran is expected to focus on what it considers deviations from agreed operational protocols for team movement and accommodation.
