Iran Reports 1,060 Deaths in 12-Day War with Israel, Toll May Rise

Iranian official confirms 1,060 killed in conflict with Israel, with Human Rights Activists reporting a higher toll of 1,190, including significant civilian casualties.

Iran’s government has updated the death toll from its 12-day war with Israel, reporting at least 1,060 fatalities, with Saeed Ohadi, head of Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, warning it could climb to 1,100 due to severe injuries, state television reported Monday.

The conflict, sparked by Israel’s surprise strikes on June 13, 2025, targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, air defenses, and military sites, killing key figures like IRGC intelligence chief Mohammad Kazemi and nuclear scientists. Iran retaliated with over 550 ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones, killing 29 in Israel, mostly civilians, and injuring over 3,238.

The Washington-based Human Rights Activists (HRANA) reported a higher toll of 1,190 deaths in Iran, including 436 civilians and 435 security personnel, with 4,475 wounded, citing local sources. Iran’s earlier figures, like 935 deaths with 170 women and children, were lower, reflecting a pattern of minimizing casualties.

Israel’s attacks, including strikes on Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites, caused no radioactive leaks but damaged critical infrastructure. Iran’s air defenses were crippled, and the extent of military losses remains undisclosed.

The ceasefire, brokered by U.S. efforts, remains fragile, with Trump pushing for talks while Iran accuses the IAEA of enabling Israel’s strikes.
