IPS Officer Nupur Prasad Awarded Medal For Meritorious Service This Year

IPS officer Nupur Prasad, who led the CBI investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has been selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) this year. The 2007-batch AGMUT cadre officer was among the police personnel recognised for distinguished and meritorious service. Prasad recently returned to the Delhi Police after completing her tenure with the Central Bureau of Investigation and is currently serving as Joint Commissioner of Police in the Economic Offences Wing, where she oversees investigations into financial and economic crimes.

Prasad gained national attention during the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput's death in 2020. She was associated with the CBI probe after the case was transferred to the agency following a complaint by the actor's family and a legal dispute over jurisdiction. The investigation examined various aspects of the case, including witness statements, forensic evidence and medical records. The case remained in the public spotlight for several years and became one of the most closely followed investigations involving the Hindi film industry.

Before her CBI tenure, Prasad served in several positions in the Delhi Police and held assignments in Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal during her career. In Delhi, she served in senior policing roles and was the first Deputy Commissioner of Police of Shahdara after the district was established. She was also associated with crime-prevention operations and investigations involving issues such as drug networks and illegal gambling. Her assignments included responsibilities involving public safety, law and order and the management of major security arrangements.

During her career, Prasad has also been involved in community-focused policing initiatives. These included programmes related to women's self-defence, youth development, cyber safety and drug de-addiction. Her work has combined investigative responsibilities with efforts aimed at strengthening community engagement and crime prevention. Her career across different policing and investigative assignments has included both operational and administrative responsibilities.

Her tenure with the CBI also brought her into contact with several high-profile investigations. Reports have associated her with investigations involving businessman Vijay Mallya and the AgustaWestland helicopter deal, adding to her experience in handling complex cases. Her work across the Delhi Police and the CBI has included investigations requiring coordination, examination of evidence and supervision of teams handling sensitive matters.

The Medal for Meritorious Service recognises police personnel for distinguished contributions in areas including investigation, crime prevention, public service, law and order and administration. Prasad's selection comes after a career spanning multiple assignments in policing and central investigation. Following her return to the Delhi Police, she is now serving in the Economic Offences Wing, where her responsibilities include overseeing investigations related to financial and economic offences. The latest honour marks another recognition of her service in law enforcement.
