Investigation Continues Into Bullet That Struck Secret Service Agent In Trump Case

New questions arise in Trump attack case over bullet that struck Secret Service agent during incident.

New details have emerged in the alleged assassination attempt against U.S. President Donald Trump, with court filings and video evidence reportedly raising questions about whether the bullet that struck a Secret Service agent was actually fired by the accused gunman. According to reporting cited by The New York Times, prosecutors have presented video evidence suggesting that the round which hit a Secret Service officer’s protective vest may not have been discharged by the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen. While this has prompted scrutiny of the sequence of events, authorities have not indicated the involvement of a second shooter, and the investigation remains focused on Allen as the sole accused individual.

Allen has been charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump and is accused of carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives during the incident. Prosecutors allege he breached a security perimeter at a Washington venue hosting a high-profile political dinner, running toward a stage where Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance were present. During the chaos, he allegedly fired shots, triggering an immediate response from Secret Service personnel.

Law enforcement accounts describe a rapid exchange of gunfire as agents moved to neutralize the threat. One Secret Service officer reportedly fired multiple rounds after hearing a shotgun blast near a stairwell leading to the ballroom area. That officer was later confirmed to have been struck in the chest by a bullet, though he was protected by a ballistic vest and survived the impact. Officials said Allen was not hit by return fire but sustained a minor knee injury during his arrest.

Despite emerging forensic questions, investigators have stressed that there is currently no credible evidence suggesting Allen did not act alone. He remains the only person arrested or charged in connection with the alleged attack. Prosecutors, however, have characterized the incident as a deliberate and highly dangerous act of political violence, warning that it placed hundreds of people at risk during a major public event. Allen is facing serious federal charges and, if convicted, could receive a life sentence. The case continues to draw national attention due to its proximity to senior U.S. political leadership and ongoing debate over security protocols at high-profile events involving the president and other top officials.
