Jaipur internet suspended ahead of anti-encroachment drive operations
Mobile internet services were suspended in parts of Jaipur on Monday ahead of an anti-encroachment drive initiated by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), which targets the removal of five religious structures, including a mosque, two temples, a satsang building, and a mazar. The operation has triggered extensive security and administrative measures across affected areas.
The drive is being carried out near the Nandpuri underpass in Jagatpura as part of a project to widen a road running parallel to a railway line to 80 feet. Officials confirmed that approximately 3,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order during the exercise, given the sensitivity of the structures involved and the scale of the demolition plan.
According to official sources, mobile internet services, bulk SMS, MMS, and social media platforms have been suspended in Jaipur North and Jaipur East police districts from 12 am on June 8 until midnight on June 9. Voice call services, however, remain operational. Authorities said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours and maintain public order during the ongoing operation.

Divisional Commissioner V. Saravan Kumar stated that the restrictions were imposed due to concerns over the potential misuse of social media and digital communication platforms, which could lead to misinformation or unrest. He added that the administration aimed to ensure that the situation remained under control throughout the duration of the drive.
Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals attempting to circulate inflammatory content or misinformation online. Security arrangements in the area have been intensified, with movement restrictions enforced in certain zones and drone surveillance deployed to monitor developments on the ground.
Authorities have also temporarily disconnected electricity supply in the immediate vicinity of the demolition site as part of precautionary security measures. Officials said the operation is being closely monitored and will proceed under strict supervision to avoid any disruption to public order, while further updates from the administration are awaited.
