IIT Delhi and Micron Join Forces to Revolutionize Semiconductor Innovation
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has partnered with Micron Technology, Inc., a global leader in memory and storage solutions, to drive cutting-edge semiconductor research in India.
Announced on Tuesday, this collaboration aims to advance electronic materials and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven modeling, addressing critical challenges in the rapidly evolving semiconductor industry.
The partnership, facilitated through IIT Delhi’s Corporate Relations office, merges academic excellence with industry expertise. Researchers will focus on developing innovative solutions, leveraging AI-powered neural models to predict and prevent issues like fatigue and fracture in copper-based electronic components. This work is expected to enhance the reliability and performance of next-generation semiconductor devices, vital for applications in data centers, smartphones, and IoT systems.

Professor Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, hailed the tie-up as a milestone. “This collaboration with Micron exemplifies our commitment to impactful industry-academia synergy, pushing boundaries in electronic materials and AI-driven innovation,” he said. Gurtej S. Sandhu, Vice President at Micron, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the joint effort to develop advanced AI models and crystal plasticity frameworks to shape the future of semiconductor technology.
India’s semiconductor market is projected to hit $64 billion by 2026, with chip demand expected to double to $100-110 billion by 2030. This partnership aligns with India’s push for self-reliance, bolstered by initiatives like the India Semiconductor Mission. By fostering talent and innovation, IIT Delhi and Micron are poised to strengthen India’s role in the global semiconductor landscape.
