Infrastructure, Rail, Healthcare Projects Worth ₹7,100+ Crore to Be Launched by PM Modi

PM Modi to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for ₹7,100+ crore development projects in TN, Puducherry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on March 1 to inaugurate, dedicate, and lay foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹7,100 crore, the Prime Minister’s Office announced on Thursday. The visit follows his recent trips to Rajasthan and Gujarat.

PM Modi will arrive in Chennai on the night of February 28 and begin his March 1 programme in Puducherry at around 11:45 a.m., unveiling projects valued at more than ₹2,700 crore. These initiatives target infrastructure, urban services, industrial development, education, healthcare, and sustainable growth, including the launch of electric buses under the PM e-Bus Seva Initiative, an Integrated Command and Control Centre under the Smart City Mission, housing for Economically Weaker Sections under the CITIIS programme, and major sewerage and water supply projects.

Education and healthcare developments will also be inaugurated, including the Composite Engineering Block–Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Block and Ganga Hostel at the National Institute of Technology, Karaikal; the modernized Regional Cancer Centre at JIPMER; and new buildings, lecture halls, and hostels at Pondicherry University. Additionally, PM Modi will dedicate the 750-acre Karasur–Sedarapet Industrial Estate, which will include a Pharma Park, Textile Park, IT Park, an IIT Madras R&D centre, and advanced healthcare facilities from JIPMER, aimed at boosting industrial growth and employment.

The Prime Minister will lay foundation stones for drinking water schemes, 41 rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Puducherry Heritage Town development, mangrove restoration under MISHTI, water and sanitation projects, and power sector initiatives under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. Urban roads, drainage networks, public buildings, student hostels, and sports facilities will also be launched under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme.

Later, PM Modi will travel to Madurai, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over ₹4,400 crore and address the public. Projects include four-laning of the Marakkanam–Puducherry section of National Highway 332A and the Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram section of National Highway 87, expected to reduce travel time, ease congestion, and enhance connectivity to major tourist and religious destinations under the PM Gati Shakti framework.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate rail infrastructure projects, including eight redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the Chennai Beach–Chennai Egmore fourth rail line to improve suburban rail capacity. In addition, three new Akashvani FM relay transmitters at Kumbakonam, Yercaud, and Vellore will be inaugurated to expand public broadcasting coverage across multiple districts.
