IndiGo Ground Staff Resigns After Alleged Feet-Touching Demand
IndiGo employee resigns after alleged feet-touching demand over tie violation.
A former IndiGo employee has alleged that he resigned from his position after being instructed by a senior official to touch his supervisor's feet as an apology for reporting to work without wearing a tie. The allegations were made by Mohammad Jamshid Y, who worked as a ground staff member at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. In a video shared on Instagram, Jamshid described the incident as "deeply humiliating" and said it compelled him to leave what he considered his dream job.
According to Jamshid, the incident took place during a routine inspection at Terminal 1 when a senior official noticed that he was not wearing the mandatory tie as part of his uniform. He said he immediately acknowledged the mistake, apologised and explained that he had unintentionally forgotten to wear it, assuring the official that the lapse would not be repeated. Jamshid stated that despite accepting responsibility, the matter escalated beyond a routine disciplinary issue.
Jamshid alleged that the official subsequently summoned his supervisor and questioned why she had permitted him to enter the terminal without complying with the prescribed dress code. After his supervisor apologised, he was also asked to apologise to her, which he said he willingly did. However, he claimed that the senior official then instructed him to touch his supervisor's feet as a gesture of apology. Jamshid said he refused, describing the demand as inappropriate and inconsistent with professional workplace conduct.

Following his refusal, Jamshid alleged that he was instructed to leave the terminal. While reiterating that forgetting to wear the tie was his own mistake, he maintained that any disciplinary action should have been handled respectfully and within the norms of a professional work environment. He stated that no employee should be required to perform any act that compromises personal dignity or self-respect in order to resolve a workplace issue.
In his social media statement, Jamshid said the incident had a lasting emotional impact and left him feeling that his dignity had been undermined. He explained that this ultimately influenced his decision to resign from the organisation, despite considering the role a significant career opportunity. His account has since attracted considerable attention online, with many users discussing workplace culture, employee rights and standards of professional conduct.
The allegations are based on Jamshid's public account and have generated widespread debate on social media. As of the time of publication, no official response from IndiGo regarding the specific allegations had been included in the available information. The incident has renewed discussions about maintaining professionalism, mutual respect and appropriate disciplinary procedures in workplace environments.
