India’s Game-Changing Air Defence Triumph: IADWS Test Success Unveiled
India’s indigenous IADWS successfully tested, showcasing a multi-layered defence shield against aerial threats.
India has achieved a historic milestone in its defence capabilities with the successful maiden flight test of the indigenously developed Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) on August 23, 2025, at approximately 12:30 pm off the coast of Odisha. The test, conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), demonstrates India’s advancing self-reliance in cutting-edge defence technology and significantly bolsters its ability to counter aerial threats.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated the achievement, stating, “The DRDO has successfully conducted the maiden flight tests of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) on August 23, 2025, off the coast of Odisha. I congratulate DRDO, the Indian Armed Forces, and industry for the successful development of IADWS.” The DRDO also shared a video of the test on X, highlighting the system’s capabilities.
The IADWS is a sophisticated multi-layered defence shield integrating three indigenous technologies: the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), the Advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles, and a high-power laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW). This advanced system is designed to neutralize a diverse range of aerial threats, including low-flying drones, high-speed enemy aircraft, and missiles, thereby enhancing India’s area defence for critical infrastructure.
