India’s First Sunrise Festival Set in Remote Arunachal Village

Arunachal to host ‘Sun Rise Festival’ in Dong to boost tourism and culture.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu unveiled plans for a five-day ‘Sun Rise Festival’ to be held from December 29 to January 2 in Dong, Anjaw district, India’s easternmost village. In a post on X, Khandu shared his excitement about the event, noting that Dong is the first place in India to witness the sunrise, making it an ideal location to welcome the New Year’s first dawn in the ‘Land of the Rising Sun.’

The festival aims to boost tourism by highlighting Anjaw’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Khandu extended an invitation to adventurers and nature enthusiasts nationwide to experience the region’s breathtaking beauty. Located at an altitude of 1,240 meters at the tri-junction of India, China, and Myanmar, Dong is a symbolic destination for tourists, trekkers, and researchers, offering a unique blend of natural splendor and cultural significance.

According to state tourism officials, the festival will feature local cultural performances, adventure activities, eco-tourism initiatives, and community-driven events to showcase Anjaw’s pristine environment and traditions. The initiative reflects the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve connectivity to this remote area, positioning Dong as a must-visit destination on India’s tourism map.

The ‘Sun Rise Festival’ is poised to elevate Arunachal Pradesh’s status as a premier hub for adventure and nature-based tourism.
