India’s First Private Cargo Terminal Launched in Gujarat

DFCCIL unveils game-changing Gati Shakti terminal

On July 9, 2025, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) inaugurated the nation’s first private Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) near Surat, Gujarat, marking a milestone in rail logistics. Built by the Sawariya Shakti Group, the New Sanjali Terminal spans 120 acres between New Sanjali and Panoli stations, enhancing connectivity to Gujarat’s industrial hubs—Panoli GIDC, Ankleshwar, and Jhagadia—and key ports like Dahej, Hazira, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT).

DFCCIL Managing Director Praveen Kumar hailed the terminal as a pivotal step in shifting freight from road to rail, promoting sustainability and cost-efficiency. “This terminal is a concrete move toward a greener, more effective logistics network,” Kumar stated during the inauguration.

Developed under Schedule-1 of the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal policy, the facility boasts world-class infrastructure, including two dedicated rail lines for containers and steel, an electrified line for bulk cargo and Truck-on-Train services, a 28-acre Inland Container Depot, and 650,000 sq. ft. of warehousing, including a 54,000 sq. ft. bonded warehouse and PESO-certified storage. Its proximity to National Highway-48, National Expressway-4, and a planned Multi-Modal Logistics Park 6 km away ensures seamless multimodal connectivity.

The terminal is designed to boost freight efficiency, reduce turnaround times, lower costs, and create jobs while supporting industrial growth in Gujarat. By decongesting highways and cutting carbon emissions, it aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan’s vision for integrated logistics.
