Indian Truck Driver Arrested by ICE After Running Red Light and Killing Man in Indiana

Indian national Sukhdeep Singh was arrested by ICE after his truck fatally struck a vehicle in Indiana.

A 25-year-old Indian national has been taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement after allegedly causing a fatal three-vehicle crash in Indiana, authorities said.

The accused, identified as Sukhdeep Singh, is alleged to have run a red light in Hendricks County, leading to a collision that killed 64-year-old Terry Schultz. Officials said Singh was also in the country without legal status at the time of the incident.

According to reports, the crash occurred around noon on Wednesday when Singh’s semi-truck struck the side of a white pickup truck at an intersection. Eyewitness Kate Breedlove told local media the truck entered the junction and hit the pickup, adding that she narrowly avoided being involved and rushed to assist the victim.

Schultz was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said Singh was first apprehended after crossing the US border as a minor in 2018 but was later released under the 1997 Flores consent decree, which requires that migrant children be released to a parent or adult relative rather than held in detention.

Officials noted that Singh reportedly obtained a commercial driver’s license in May 2025. Following the crash, he was placed in ICE custody pending further legal proceedings.

The Department of Homeland Security said the incident comes less than two weeks after another fatal Indiana crash involving an undocumented semi-truck driver. The agency described such cases as preventable and extended condolences to the victim’s family.

Authorities also referenced previous incidents, including a recent case involving a truck driver from Kazakhstan and another August 2025 crash allegedly involving an Indian national. Investigations into the latest collision remain ongoing.
