Indian Navy, Army Successfully Conclude Biannual Joint Amphibious Exercise 'Jal Prahar'

Joint exercise boosts India’s amphibious warfare readiness.

The Indian Navy, in a display of seamless synergy with the Indian Army, successfully wrapped up its biannual joint amphibious exercise ‘Jal Prahar’ along the eastern seaboard, reinforcing India’s prowess in complex coastal operations. Conducted from September 16 to 23, the exercise, orchestrated by the Eastern Naval Command, aimed to fine-tune inter-service coordination, operational planning, and execution, ensuring the armed forces are battle-ready for amphibious missions critical to national security.

The exercise unfolded in two dynamic phases. The Harbour Phase, spanning September 16 to 20, saw Army troops board the Navy’s INS Gharial for intensive integration. This five-day segment featured onboard training, safety briefings, and an immersion into maritime life, complete with sports and interaction sessions to build camaraderie between the services. “The focus was on forging a cohesive unit,” an ENC official noted, highlighting the emphasis on trust and teamwork.

The Sea Phase, from September 21 to 23, shifted gears to action-packed operations off Kakinada’s coast. Troops executed high-stakes amphibious maneuvers, including hard beaching—a tactical landing on hostile shores—while validating standard operating procedures and joint training protocols. The drills tested everything from rapid troop deployment to coordinated logistics, ensuring both forces operate as a single, unstoppable entity.

‘Jal Prahar’ underscores India’s strategic focus on bolstering maritime defense amid rising regional tensions, particularly in the Indo-Pacific. By simulating real-world scenarios, the exercise enhances the military’s ability to project power, secure coastlines, and respond to contingencies.

With the Navy and Army syncing their strengths, this successful drill sends a clear message: India’s forces are primed to dominate any amphibious theater, safeguarding the nation’s interests with precision and unity.
