Indian Army Rescues 571 People From Flood-Affected Areas In Assam
Army rescues hundreds as Assam flood relief operations continue.
The Indian Army has rescued 571 people stranded in flood-affected villages across Upper Assam as rising waters of the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries continue to impact large areas of the region. The rescue operations have been carried out amid heavy monsoon rains that have submerged homes, damaged agricultural fields, and affected essential infrastructure in several districts.
Dedicated Flood Relief Columns from the Spear Corps have been conducting round-the-clock rescue operations since July 19, according to officials. Under ‘Operation Jal Rahat’, three teams comprising 45 Army personnel were deployed to some of the worst-affected areas, including Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts, to assist residents trapped by rising floodwaters.
The Army teams have been working in coordination with the state government and local authorities to reach isolated communities. Using motorboats equipped with specialised engineering equipment and emergency medical supplies, troops have navigated strong currents and challenging conditions to evacuate residents from affected villages.

During the operations, soldiers have focused on helping vulnerable groups, including children, elderly residents, and families unable to move to safer locations. Along with evacuation efforts, the teams have provided immediate medical assistance and distributed essential supplies to people stranded due to the floods.
An Army official involved in the relief mission said that supporting citizens during major emergencies remains a key responsibility of the force alongside its national security duties. The ongoing operations reflect the Army’s role in disaster response and humanitarian assistance during natural calamities.
The flood relief efforts in Upper Assam continue as authorities monitor water levels and assess the impact of the widespread inundation. With rescue teams remaining deployed in affected areas, efforts are focused on ensuring safety, providing critical assistance, and helping communities recover from the effects of the severe flooding.
