Indian Army Defuses 15 Mortar Bombs in Arunachal’s Shi-Yomi

Army heroically defuses 15 deadly bombs

The Indian Army’s Spearhead Division Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) disposal team successfully neutralized 15 unserviceable 81 mm mortar bombs in Monigong, Shi-Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh, on Friday, averting a potential threat to civilian safety. Defence PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat stated that the hazardous ordnance, discovered during excavation in a civilian-frequented area, posed a significant risk to the local community.

Acting swiftly, the army coordinated with the civil administration to deploy the UXO team to the remote site. Following standard procedures, the team safely defused the bombs, ensuring no harm to residents or infrastructure. The operation underscores the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to community safety in Arunachal Pradesh, where it has previously conducted similar efforts, such as defusing two live bombs in Kamle district in July 2025.

The bombs, likely remnants from military exercises or historical conflicts, highlight the region’s proximity to sensitive border areas near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Army’s proactive response, also seen in recent disaster relief efforts in Shi-Yomi’s Menchuka town, reinforces its role beyond border defense, fostering trust with locals through initiatives like medical camps and infrastructure development.
