Ashok Sharma makes debut as India bowl first.
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first against Zimbabwe in the opening match of the three-match T20I series at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday. India opted to chase under the Harare conditions, with the team management making several key selections, including handing a debut to young fast bowler Ashok Sharma.
The Indian playing XI features the return of Rinku Singh, who is set to represent the national side for the first time since the 2026 T20 World Cup. Rinku’s inclusion adds power-hitting ability to the middle order as India look to begin the series on a positive note. The team has also strengthened its pace attack with Ashok Sharma, Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav included among the fast-bowling options.
Ashok Sharma’s debut has attracted attention due to his impressive pace, with the young pacer reportedly capable of reaching speeds of around 154.2 kmph. Ravi Bishnoi has been selected as the specialist spinner, while all-rounder Shivam Dube provides India with an additional bowling option. The combination reflects India’s focus on balancing emerging talent with experienced players.

Zimbabwe also faced a setback ahead of the match after batter Milton Shumba was ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. The team management has brought in Innocent Kaia as his replacement in the squad. The first T20I marks an important opportunity for both teams, with India looking to build momentum under Iyer’s captaincy and Zimbabwe hoping to start the series with a strong performance.
