India-UK Trade Soars with Maharashtra Deal

GIBC and Maharashtra join forces to boost global business ties.

In a historic move to deepen economic ties between India and the United Kingdom, the Global India Business Corridor (GIBC) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra on August 22, 2025, in Mumbai. The agreement, formalized in the presence of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to bolster bilateral trade, investment, and innovation, positioning Maharashtra as a key hub for international business collaboration.

The MoU establishes GIBC as an extended arm of Maharashtra’s Industries Department, tasked with promoting the state’s interests across the UK and Europe. This strategic partnership will facilitate seamless business engagement in high-growth sectors such as Banking & Finance, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Technology, Renewable Energy, Healthcare, and Education. By leveraging GIBC’s extensive network of industry leaders and businesses, the collaboration seeks to unlock new opportunities for cross-border investment and innovation.

Chief Minister Fadnavis hailed the agreement as a significant step forward, stating, “Maharashtra remains a top investment destination in India, and this partnership with GIBC will create a robust ecosystem for innovation, job creation, and global collaboration.” Kaustubh Dhavse, Chief Advisor (Investments & Strategy) to the Chief Minister, emphasized the timely nature of the MoU, noting, “With the India-UK Free Trade Agreement in place, this partnership will simplify collaboration and investment, strengthening Maharashtra’s global economic presence.”

Anbalagan, and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, underscoring the government’s commitment to the initiative.

For UK businesses, the GIBC offers a gateway to India’s dynamic market, while Indian enterprises gain a structured pathway to expand into the UK. The partnership is expected to enhance Maharashtra’s appeal as a global investment destination, fostering long-term economic growth and innovation. As GIBC continues to bridge governments, businesses, and industries, this MoU sets the stage for a new era of India-UK collaboration.
