India Sees 97 Of World’s 100 Hottest Cities As Temperatures Cross 45°C

India records 97 of world’s hottest cities amid extreme heatwave crossing 45°C.

A severe heatwave sweeping across large parts of India has pushed temperatures to extreme levels, with data showing that 97 of the world’s 100 hottest cities on Friday afternoon were located in the country, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing weather conditions.

According to AQI.in data recorded at around 2:50 pm IST, temperatures across northern, central, and eastern India surged well beyond 45°C in several regions. Balangir in Odisha emerged as the hottest location, recording 48°C, followed closely by Sasaram in Bihar, which also touched 48°C, while Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh registered 47°C amid extremely dry atmospheric conditions.

The list of global hotspots was overwhelmingly dominated by Indian cities, with only three locations outside the country appearing in the top 100. These included Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, and Lumbini Sanskritik in Nepal, where temperatures ranged between 45°C and 46°C. Apart from these exceptions, the entire ranking was occupied by Indian cities experiencing extreme heat stress.

Several other Indian cities featured prominently in the list, including Muzaffarnagar, Ayodhya, Patiala, Warangal, and Haridwar, each recording temperatures around 46°C. Humidity levels in many of these regions remained critically low, often between 6 and 8 percent, further intensifying the impact of the heatwave and placing conditions in the “extreme hot” category.

Meteorological conditions indicate that the current heatwave is affecting a wide geographical spread, with prolonged exposure to such temperatures posing serious health risks, including dehydration and heatstroke. Authorities in affected regions have urged residents to take precautions, avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and remain hydrated as the extreme weather pattern continues.
