India, Jamaica boost trade ties and skilled mobility cooperation
India and Jamaica have agreed to strengthen bilateral ties by boosting trade and expanding cooperation in skilled mobility, following discussions led by S. Jaishankar during his official visit to the Caribbean nation. The talks focused on deepening economic engagement and enhancing workforce exchange between the two countries.
Speaking after the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted the shared intent to diversify trade relations and explore new sectors for collaboration. Both sides emphasised the need to unlock untapped potential in areas such as pharmaceuticals, information technology, agriculture, and services, aiming to create a more balanced and resilient trade partnership.
A key outcome of the discussions was the agreement to promote skilled mobility, which would facilitate the movement of professionals and workers between India and Jamaica. Officials indicated that this could include frameworks to recognise qualifications, ease visa processes, and support workforce requirements in sectors facing skill shortages.
