NSA Doval chairs BRICS security meeting; prepares for September summit.
India will host the BRICS National Security Advisers' meeting on June 22 and 23, with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval set to chair the high-level discussions ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled to take place in India later this year. The Ministry of External Affairs announced that the meeting will focus on addressing emerging global security concerns under the theme "Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today."
The two-day meeting is expected to bring together National Security Advisers and senior delegation heads from all BRICS member countries for extensive deliberations on evolving security issues. The gathering will serve as a key preparatory event for the BRICS Summit in September, with India holding the rotating presidency of the bloc in 2026.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions will centre on non-traditional security challenges that increasingly affect global stability, including issues requiring multilateral cooperation among member nations. The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for participating countries to exchange views and strengthen coordination on shared security priorities.

Senior officials from several major BRICS nations are expected to attend the meeting, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Russian National Security Adviser Sergei Shoigu and Iranian Supreme National Security Council Deputy Secretary Nezamipour. Their participation is expected to contribute to high-level discussions on regional and international security developments.
The BRICS grouping currently comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. As the current chair, India has been leading efforts to deepen cooperation among member countries across political, economic and strategic sectors while expanding the bloc's global engagement.
The National Security Advisers' meeting is expected to lay the groundwork for discussions at the BRICS Summit in September by identifying common approaches to contemporary security challenges and enhancing coordination among member states. The outcomes of the meeting are likely to shape the agenda for leaders as they convene later this year under India's presidency.
