India First! Wont Add to Country's Challenges - Punjab Farmers Call Off Major Protest
Punjab Farmers’ Patriotism Shines Amid Tensions, Opt for Peaceful Protest
In a remarkable display of patriotism, Punjab farmers, labourers, and women under the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee chose restraint over disruption, holding a peaceful sit-in near Devidaspura instead of blocking rail tracks.
The decision, announced by state president Sukhwinder Singh Sabhra and general secretary Rana Ranbir Singh, reflects their commitment to national interest amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions following Operation Sindoor and the Kartarpur Corridor’s closure.
Initially planned as a rail blockade to protest the Punjab government’s policies and alleged forced land acquisitions for the Bharatmala Project, the farmers reconsidered their strategy. “We are fighting for our rights, but we will not add to the country’s challenges at this critical time,” said farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher. The protesters gathered on May 6 night, condemning the state government for allegedly turning Punjab into a “police state” through years of forceful land grabs and suppression of dissent.

Farmer leader Jarmanjit Singh Bandala accused the government of acting on the Centre’s orders, deploying police to arrest and intimidate resisting farmers. Pandher highlighted recent police crackdowns, including alleged brutality during protests at Shambhu on March 19-20 and a planned gherao of the Shambhu police station.
Despite a brief scuffle with police near the tracks, the farmers clarified they had no intent to disrupt trains, relocating their protest to a nearby ground to ensure uninterrupted rail services.
The leaders issued a stern warning: if the government’s suppression of farmer organizations and harassment of their families persists, large-scale protests will follow. This act of unity and restraint underscores the farmers’ resolve to balance their struggle for justice with unwavering loyalty to the nation, setting a powerful example of responsible activism in challenging times.
