India Applauds US Move to Label TRF as Global Terrorists

India praises US decision to designate LeT proxy TRF a global terrorist group after the deadly Pahalgam attack.

India enthusiastically welcomed the United States' decision on Friday to designate The Resistance Force (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), as a global terrorist organization. The move follows TRF's claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians—the deadliest assault on Indian civilians since the 2008 Mumbai attacks led by LeT.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the US action as a "strong testament" to the deepening India-US counter-terrorism partnership. In a social media post, Jaishankar thanked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the State Department for designating TRF as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).

The US State Department highlighted TRF’s involvement in multiple attacks on Indian security forces, including several in 2024. This designation reflects the Trump Administration’s commitment to combating terrorism and seeking justice for the Pahalgam attack victims, reinforcing efforts to protect national security.
