India And Russia Reaffirm Commitment To Defence Industrial, Technological Cooperation

India and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence industrial and technological cooperation during the fifth India-Russia Army Land System Sub-Group (ALSSG) meeting currently underway in New Delhi. The four-day engagement, being held from August 4 to 7 under the framework of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC), is aimed at deepening the long-standing defence partnership between the two countries and enhancing collaboration in military technology and land systems.

The Indian delegation is being led by Lieutenant General Rahul R. Singh, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Capability Development and Sustenance), while the Russian delegation is headed by Major General Aleksandr Tufekchi, Deputy Head of the Main Armoured Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defence. According to the Indian Army's Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), both sides reiterated their commitment to enhancing mutual trust and expanding defence industrial and technological cooperation as part of their broader strategic partnership.

The ongoing discussions are focused on advancing collaboration in army land systems and reinforcing bilateral military ties through continued engagement under the IRIGC-M&MTC mechanism. India and Russia have maintained close defence relations for decades, with cooperation spanning military hardware, joint production, technology transfer and strategic dialogue. The ALSSG serves as a key platform for reviewing ongoing projects and identifying new areas of cooperation between the two armed forces.

The defence engagement follows the 14th meeting of the India-Russia Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism held in New Delhi on July 8, where both countries reviewed the evolving global and regional terrorist threat landscape. During the meeting, co-chaired by Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in tackling violent extremism, radicalisation, terror financing and the misuse of emerging technologies and digital financial platforms by terrorist organisations.

India and Russia also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing counter-terrorism cooperation through bilateral mechanisms and multilateral forums, including the United Nations, BRICS, the Eurasian Group (EAG) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Both countries condemned terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism, and strongly denounced the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, and near Red Fort in New Delhi on November 10, 2025. They also called for coordinated international action against terrorist organisations, including entities designated by the UN Security Council's 1267 Sanctions Committee and their affiliates.
