Independence Day Parade Full Dress Rehearsal Held At Red Fort In Delhi

Full dress rehearsal held at Red Fort ahead of Independence Day.

A full dress rehearsal for the 80th Independence Day celebrations was held at the historic Red Fort on Thursday, with security and traffic arrangements tightened across the national capital. The rehearsal was conducted ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled address from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, when large crowds are expected to gather in and around central Delhi.

Security personnel were deployed at several locations, while traffic restrictions were introduced on roads leading towards the national capital’s border areas. Shahdara DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena said the district was being treated as a sensitive zone, particularly because it has seven border points adjoining Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Traffic at these points was shut from 10 pm on Wednesday as part of the security arrangements.

Meena said temporary pickets had been established at additional locations alongside regular checkpoints and check posts across the district. Emergency Response Vehicles and patrol vehicles were also kept active in their respective areas. Special security arrangements were made around the Khadar area along the Yamuna River, behind the Red Fort complex, where police have been conducting continuous patrols that will continue until the main Independence Day event.

Traffic Police Zone-2 Additional Commissioner of Police Dinesh Kumar Gupta said restrictions had also been placed along the national capital’s border areas from 10 pm on Wednesday. Commercial vehicles were not permitted to enter through the restricted points, while vehicles carrying essential commodities were allowed. Delhi Police coordinated with authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to stop and divert vehicles before they reached the border areas, helping reduce the possibility of congestion.

Several traffic diversion points have also been established across the city ahead of the celebrations. Gupta said restrictions were being imposed on routes including C-Hexagon and Tilak Marg, as well as roads in the Lutyens’ Zone and other VIP areas because of expected VIP movement. Police personnel have been deployed at key intersections to regulate traffic and implement the restrictions.

Authorities have issued a public advisory through various channels, including print media, listing affected routes and suggesting alternative roads for commuters. The traffic and security measures are expected to remain in place around the Red Fort and other sensitive areas as Delhi prepares for the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The extensive arrangements are aimed at managing the expected crowds while maintaining security and smooth movement across the capital.
