IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Hot And Humid Conditions In Mumbai And Thane

IMD issues yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane as hot, humid weather expected to intensify.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and adjoining regions, warning of hot and humid weather conditions expected to intensify between April 15 and April 16, with temperatures likely to rise further across parts of Maharashtra.

According to the IMD forecast, Mumbai is expected to experience “hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets” over the next two days, with the maximum temperature likely to touch around 34°C on April 15. The minimum temperature is expected to remain around 25°C, contributing to uncomfortable and sticky weather conditions in the city.

Weather stations in Mumbai have already recorded above-normal readings in recent days. The Santa Cruz station logged a maximum temperature of 32.8°C, while Colaba recorded 33.7°C, both showing slight variations from seasonal averages. Officials said humidity levels combined with rising temperatures are likely to increase discomfort for residents.

The yellow alert has also been extended to neighbouring districts including Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. In addition, parts of central Maharashtra, including Sangli and Solapur, are expected to experience heatwave conditions over the same period, raising concerns about prolonged heat stress in the region.

The IMD has also forecast a gradual temperature rise of 2°C to 3°C across Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada regions between April 14 and April 18. In some interior areas, maximum temperatures could reach between 40°C and 43°C, with isolated heatwave conditions expected during this period.

Authorities have advised residents to take precautions during peak afternoon hours, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure, and wearing light, breathable clothing. People engaged in outdoor work have been urged to adjust schedules and take frequent breaks, while citizens are being encouraged to monitor symptoms of heat-related illnesses such as dizziness, fatigue, and nausea.
