IMD Issues Weather Alert for Delhi-NCR: Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds Expected
IMD warns Delhi-NCR of thunderstorms and strong winds.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), warning residents of potential thunderstorms and gusty winds over the coming days. Authorities have advised people to exercise caution and take necessary safety measures.
According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds is expected in various parts of Delhi-NCR. The advisory highlights the likelihood of wind speeds reaching up to 40–50 km/h in some areas, which could lead to tree falls and minor damage to structures.
The forecast comes amid unseasonal weather patterns, which meteorologists say are influenced by western disturbances moving across northern India. The IMD has urged local authorities to remain alert and ensure that storm-related contingencies are in place, including clearing drains and securing loose structures.

Schools, offices, and transport services have been advised to prepare for possible disruptions. Commuters are cautioned to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and to stay indoors whenever possible. Traffic authorities have also been alerted to manage congestion and prevent accidents caused by sudden weather changes.
The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the thunderstorms approach. Residents are encouraged to follow official channels for real-time advisories and emergency instructions to stay safe during the weather event.
With summer temperatures still lingering, experts note that such thunderstorm episodes are common in the pre-monsoon season, bringing temporary relief from the heat but also posing risks to property and public safety.
