Dust storm with 92 kmph winds hits Delhi, IMD issues red alert.

Delhi was battered by a dust storm on Tuesday afternoon as intense winds swept across the city, with speeds reaching up to 92 kmph in parts of Palam, Dwarka and nearby areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the national capital, warning of severe weather conditions accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning activity.

According to the IMD, wind speeds across several parts of Delhi ranged between 60–70 kmph, with gusts likely touching 80 kmph in isolated pockets. The strongest impact was recorded in areas such as Palam and Dwarka, where wind speeds peaked at around 92 kmph (50 knots) as of 2:30 pm IST, indicating rapidly intensifying weather conditions across the city.

Earlier in the day, the regional meteorological centre had issued an orange alert around 1 pm, forecasting moderate thunderstorms with lightning. However, as conditions worsened, the alert was escalated to a red warning covering all parts of Delhi, signalling the possibility of more severe weather developments through the afternoon.

The advisory was issued with validity until 5 pm on Tuesday, urging residents to remain cautious amid rapidly changing weather patterns.
