IMD Forecasts Light To Moderate Rain Across Tamil Nadu And Puducherry Till Friday

IMD predicts rain across Tamil Nadu, but temperatures may rise despite temporary relief.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall in Chennai on Tuesday, driven by a persistent low-pressure system extending from Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar through Tamil Nadu. The system is expected to influence weather conditions across the region, bringing intermittent showers and increased cloud cover.

According to meteorological officials, several parts of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall over the coming days. The rainfall activity is expected to continue until Friday, with both coastal and interior districts witnessing localized showers as the weather system remains active.

The evolving conditions are part of a broader transitional weather pattern typically observed during this time of year. While rainfall is expected to dominate in the short term, regional variations are likely over the weekend. Districts along the Western Ghats may receive moderate rainfall on Saturday and Sunday, whereas delta regions could see only isolated light showers.

In Chennai and surrounding suburban areas, the anticipated rainfall is expected to offer temporary respite from the recent spell of high temperatures. However, despite the cooling effect of rain, meteorologists have indicated that temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to gradually increase by up to 3 degrees Celsius in the coming days, signaling a return to warmer conditions.

Recent weather data shows that rainfall in parts of the state has already led to a slight dip in temperatures. Nevertheless, several interior districts continue to experience intense heat. Erode recorded the highest temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, followed by Karur Paramathi at 39.4 degrees, while Vellore and Tirupattur reported temperatures of around 38.3 degrees.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious amid the fluctuating weather, warning of sudden rain spells accompanied by gusty winds in certain areas. While the showers may provide short-term relief, officials emphasized that prevailing summer conditions are expected to persist, urging the public to stay updated with official forecasts as the situation evolves.
