Hyderabad Woman Murdered by Thieves, Suspects Flee After Bath

Woman brutally killed, robbers escape with gold, cash.

In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through Hyderabad, a 50-year-old woman, Renu Agarwal, was brutally murdered in her upscale apartment at Swan Lake, a gated community in the heart of Cyberabad’s IT hub. The gruesome crime, which unfolded on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, involved the victim being tied up, beaten with a pressure cooker, and having her throat slit with a knife and scissors. The perpetrators, identified as two domestic workers, looted the house, took a shower, and fled, leaving behind blood-stained clothes in a brazen act that has raised serious questions about security in gated communities.

Renu Agarwal lived with her husband, Rakesh Agarwal, and their 26-year-old son, Shubham, on the 13th floor of the Swan Lake Apartment. The family, which runs a steel business in Fatehnagar, had left Renu alone at home around 10 a.m. on Wednesday as Rakesh and Shubham headed to work. By 5 p.m., when their repeated calls to Renu went unanswered, Rakesh grew alarmed and rushed home. Finding the main door locked, he enlisted a plumber to access the apartment through the balcony, only to discover Renu’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, her hands and feet bound.

According to the Kukatpally Police, the assailants tortured Renu, striking her with a pressure cooker before fatally slashing her throat with a knife and scissors. The perpetrators then ransacked the apartment, stealing approximately 40 grams of gold jewelry and Rs 1 lakh in cash. Shockingly, they took the time to bathe in the victim’s home, changed into fresh clothes, and left their blood-soaked garments behind before fleeing on a two-wheeler belonging to one of their employers.

The police have identified two prime suspects: Harsha, a 20-year-old domestic worker from Jharkhand hired by the Agarwals just 10 days prior through a Kolkata-based manpower agency, and Roushan, another domestic worker employed at a neighboring apartment on the 14th floor. CCTV footage captured the duo entering the 13th floor around noon and leaving at 5:02 p.m., carrying a suitcase presumed to contain the stolen items. Authorities suspect the pair, who fled toward KPHB Colony, may be heading to Ranchi, their native region in Jharkhand.

The Kukatpally Police Station has registered a murder case, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspects. Five special teams have been deployed to track Harsha and Roushan, with police scouring railway stations, bus depots, and other transit points. Forensic experts and a dog squad are collecting evidence, including fingerprints and the discarded clothing, while CCTV footage from the apartment complex and surrounding areas is being meticulously analyzed.

The brutal murder has sparked widespread outrage and fear among residents of Swan Lake and other gated communities, shattering the perception of safety in such enclaves. “This is unthinkable,” said a neighbor, speaking anonymously. “We trusted the security here, but how could something so horrific happen?” The incident has prompted calls for stricter vetting of domestic workers and enhanced security measures in residential complexes.

Renu’s body was sent for a postmortem, and her family, devastated by the loss, is cooperating with the investigation. The police, led by Balanagar DCP Suresh Kumar and Kukatpally ACP Ravi Kiran Reddy, are working tirelessly to bring the culprits to justice. As the investigation unfolds, this tragic case serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities that can lurk even in the most secure environments, leaving Hyderabad’s residents grappling with shock and a demand for answers.
