Hyderabad Police Charge 19-Year-Old for Alleged Drag Racing and Stunts
19-year-old charged in Hyderabad for alleged drag racing and dangerous car stunts.
A 19-year-old was detained by Raidurgam Police after allegedly engaging in illegal drag racing and performing dangerous car stunts near the Knowledge City area in Hyderabad’s IT corridor. The accused, identified as Rehan, was taken into custody following a late-night enforcement drive targeting rash driving activities in the region. According to police, the incident occurred near the stretch connecting T-Hub and My Home Bhooja, an area that has increasingly witnessed reports of high-speed driving and unauthorised racing during late-night hours.
Officers said the suspect was driving a Honda City at high speed when police attempted to intercept the vehicle during routine checks. During the chase, the vehicle allegedly swerved in a manner that endangered police personnel, resulting in an injury to Constable Ramesh, who sustained a hand injury while attempting to stop the car. Authorities said the incident raised serious concerns about public safety and reckless driving behaviour in the city’s IT corridor.
Police later detained the accused and seized the Honda City along with a mobile phone, which is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials said they suspect that social media coordination and informal racing networks may be contributing to the rise in such activities across Hyderabad’s tech corridor.

Investigators also noted that several other individuals believed to be part of the racing group managed to escape from the spot. Efforts are underway to identify them using CCTV footage and digital evidence collected from the area. A case has been registered under relevant sections related to rash driving, endangering public safety, and obstruction of public servants under applicable laws.
Authorities said the roads around Knowledge City, Raidurgam, Financial District, and nearby Outer Ring Road stretches have become frequent hotspots for such activities due to wide road layouts, low traffic density at night, and easy accessibility for high-speed driving. In a parallel enforcement action during the same weekend, Hyderabad Traffic Police reported a large-scale drunk driving crackdown, during which 294 motorists were charged across multiple checkpoints. Officials said offenders will be produced before court as legal proceedings continue under traffic and criminal law provisions.
