A devastating road accident claimed a life on Sunday evening after a husk-laden truck overturned onto a moving Bolero SUV in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district. The fatal incident occurred at the busy Pahadi Gate intersection on the Rampur–Nainital Highway, an area known for frequent congestion and heavy vehicular movement. CCTV footage of the crash later surfaced online, drawing widespread attention due to the sheer force of the impact and the suddenness of the tragedy.
Initial accounts indicate that the Bolero was attempting to negotiate a turn at a designated highway cut when the truck following it made a sudden evasive maneuver. In the process, one of the truck’s wheels mounted the central road divider, destabilising the vehicle. Given the heavy load of husk it was carrying, the truck quickly lost balance and overturned within seconds.
The massive vehicle toppled directly onto the Bolero, flattening the SUV beyond recognition. The driver of the Bolero sustained fatal injuries and died instantly at the scene. Officials later confirmed that the vehicle belonged to a Sub-Divisional Officer of the Electricity Department, but the officer was not inside at the time, as the driver was returning after dropping him at a substation.
Following the accident, emergency services were mobilised on a large scale. Police teams from three nearby stations, along with fire brigade units and ambulances, reached the site to manage rescue and relief operations. A crane was deployed to lift the overturned truck and recover the victim, while traffic on the Rampur–Nainital Highway remained disrupted for several hours during the clearance operation.
Senior district and police officials, including the Superintendent of Police and revenue authorities, visited the hospital and the crash site to review the situation. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine how the truck lost stability and whether factors such as overloading or road design contributed to the incident. The tragedy has once again underscored concerns regarding the movement of heavy vehicles through busy intersections and the need for stricter safety measures on major highways.
