Hospital Sealed After Newborn’s Death in Lakhimpur

Father carries deceased newborn to DM after hospital’s neglect.

A grieving father’s desperate act of carrying his deceased newborn’s body to the District Magistrate’s office has led to the sealing of Goldar Hospital in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, following allegations of exorbitant fee hikes and neglect during a critical delivery. Vipin Gupta, the father, accused the hospital of repeatedly increasing charges as his wife endured prolonged labor, ultimately resulting in the tragic death of their newborn.

According to Gupta, the hospital initially quoted Rs 10,000 for a normal delivery and Rs 12,000 for a C-section. However, as his wife’s labor intensified, the hospital allegedly escalated the fees further. “I arranged the money by 2:30 am, but they kept demanding more before starting the procedure,” Gupta told ANI. He even pleaded to transfer his wife to another facility, but the hospital insisted on upfront payment, delaying critical care. Tragically, the newborn died, and Gupta alleged that his wife was “thrown out on the road” afterward.

Distraught, Gupta carried his deceased child in a bag to the District Magistrate’s office, prompting swift action. The DM, in an X post on Friday, confirmed that Goldar Hospital was sealed, and admitted patients were being shifted to the District Women’s Hospital. Additional District Magistrate AK Rastogi was dispatched to Srijan Hospital, where Gupta’s wife was later admitted, to ensure proper treatment. “The district administration stands with the affected family,” the DM stated.
