Home Ministry Secretary Rajendra Kumar Conducts Two-Day Security Review at Moreh Border

MHA secretary orders enhanced surveillance in Manipur's Moreh.

Union Ministry of Home Affairs Secretary (Border Management) Rajendra Kumar undertook a comprehensive two-day inspection visit to the tense border town of Moreh in Manipur's Tengnoupal district on December 20-21, 2025, aimed at rigorously evaluating and reinforcing the overall security framework along the strategically vital India-Myanmar international boundary amid ongoing regional instabilities.

During his on-ground assessment, Kumar personally inspected several frontline border outposts positioned in close proximity to the international line, closely examining the operational effectiveness of deployed surveillance systems while holding direct interactions with Assam Rifles and other security personnel to gain firsthand insight into the practical difficulties and logistical constraints they encounter daily.

The Secretary issued clear directives to the deployed forces, stressing the critical need for substantially improved coordination among various agencies involved in border security and urging the immediate adoption of targeted measures designed to significantly enhance the overall efficacy and responsiveness of ongoing surveillance activities in this sensitive sector.

Following the field inspections, a high-level joint review meeting was convened involving senior Assam Rifles commanders and local civil authorities, where detailed discussions centered on refining border patrolling strategies, streamlining intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and addressing persistent operational gaps that could compromise security.

Kumar particularly highlighted the transformative potential of modern technology in contemporary border management, advocating for accelerated deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and cutting-edge sensor systems to enable more intelligent, real-time monitoring of cross-border movements, as part of sustained national initiatives to upgrade infrastructure and capabilities across vulnerable frontier regions.
