Himachal’s Peaks Freeze Under Relentless Snow and Storms
Heavy snow and storms grip Himachal’s high reaches.
The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh were blanketed with fresh snowfall for the second consecutive day on Monday, causing a significant drop in minimum temperatures across the region. According to officials, Gondhla in Lahaul and Spiti district recorded 5 cm of snow, while Keylong saw 4 cm.
Intermittent rainfall drenched several parts of the state, with Guler receiving the highest at 42 mm since Sunday evening. Other areas, including Nagrota Suriyan (38.4 mm), Bharwain (37 mm), Dehra Gopipur (35 mm), Pachhad (34.2 mm), Aghar (32.8 mm), Nadaun (28 mm), and Murari Devi (27 mm), also experienced significant rainfall.
Thunderstorms struck Jot, Murari Devi, Sundernagar, Bhunter, Kangra, Palampur, and Shimla, accompanied by gusty winds with speeds ranging from 41 to 57 kmph in Hamirpur, Narkanda, Kufri, Bajaura, Reckong Peo, Tabo, and Kotkhai.
The Shimla Meteorological Office, led by Director Kuldeep Srivastav, forecasts that a strong active western disturbance will continue to impact the state for the next two days. Intermittent rains are expected across all districts, with heavy rainfall likely in Kangra and Chamba, and further snowfall in Lahaul and Spiti. Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti recorded the lowest temperature at 0.1°C, reflecting a sharp decline in both minimum and maximum temperatures.

An orange warning has been issued for Monday, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi, with heavy rain or snow in Lahaul and Spiti.
A yellow warning follows for Tuesday, indicating heavy rain and snow with thunderstorms and gusty winds in isolated areas of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, and Lahaul and Spiti. The weather is expected to clear up and remain mainly dry from October 9 onward.
