Himachal Governor Questions Real Motive Behind CJP's Ongoing Protest

Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta has questioned the direction of the ongoing CJP-led protests over the NEET paper leak, alleging that the agitation has moved beyond its original objectives and is now being used to advance a broader agenda. Speaking to NDTV, the Governor said the nature of the demonstrations had changed and raised concerns over the slogans and messages being displayed during the protests.

Gupta said democratic societies provide space for people to express their opinions and grievances, but argued that protests should remain focused on their stated demands. He claimed that certain slogans and placards seen during the demonstrations suggested that the movement had shifted away from its initial purpose. According to him, such developments warranted closer scrutiny of the intentions behind the agitation.

Commenting on the NEET issue, the Governor said the examination had already been conducted and the results had been declared. He questioned the continuation of the protests despite these developments, stating that he no longer understood the basis for the ongoing demonstrations. He also said the government remains committed to introducing systemic reforms to address concerns related to examination processes and paper leaks.

When asked whether he believed the protests were being sponsored, Gupta replied that people were "being instigated". He alleged that attempts were being made to influence participants and claimed that the language used by some protesters indicated motives beyond the original demands. He further described the developments as part of what he referred to as a "toolkit" intended to create unrest.

The Governor also linked public criticism of the government to corrective measures being undertaken on historical issues, suggesting that some groups were using the protests to pursue wider political objectives. His remarks come amid continuing debate over the direction of the student-led movement and the broader political responses it has attracted.

The CJP-led protests began over demands for accountability following the NEET paper leak controversy and have generated varied reactions from political leaders, student groups and civil society organisations. While supporters describe the demonstrations as a call for education reforms and accountability, critics have questioned whether the movement has expanded beyond its original focus.
