Himachal Father Throws Son Into River After Phone Argument With Wife

A man allegedly threw his six-year-old son into the swollen Ravi river following an argument with his wife over the phone in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, police said. The accused, identified as Hitesh Kumar, later surrendered before the police and was arrested. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night, when Kumar took his son, Gagandeep, to Parel bridge and allegedly threw him into the river.

According to officials, Kumar’s wife has been staying at her maternal home in Amritsar with the couple’s younger son for about a month. The six-year-old, meanwhile, had remained with his father at their rented accommodation. Police said Kumar and his wife had an argument over the phone before he allegedly took the child from the residence to the bridge.

Kumar contacted the police emergency helpline 112 on Tuesday morning and informed authorities about what had happened. Police initially questioned the claim and began verifying the circumstances surrounding the incident. After reaching the location and conducting an inquiry, officers found that the child was missing from the rented accommodation where he had been staying with his father. The accused was subsequently taken into custody.

A search operation was launched in the Ravi river to locate the missing child, officials said. Police have also seized the wife’s mobile phone and are questioning her as part of the investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances leading up to the alleged act, including the dispute between the couple and the events that followed.
