Himachal CM Sukhu Raps BJP, Demands Aid from Centre

Sukhu denies suggesting Congress chief, pushes for aid

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday criticized the BJP for its “walkout” during an Assembly debate on disaster relief, highlighting a gap between their rhetoric and actions. Addressing the media after meeting Congress state in-charge Rajni Patil, Sukhu also clarified he had not proposed any names for the state Congress president’s post, leaving the decision to the party’s high command.

In the Assembly, Sukhu noted that the BJP initiated a four-day debate on disaster relief under Rule 67, but its members walked out during the reply. “We’ve received no financial aid from the Centre. Himachal is funding relief from its own resources—Rs 7 lakh for house construction, Rs 70,000 for belongings, and Rs 50,000 for cattle loss, far exceeding other states,” he claimed. With the state reeling from rain, cloudbursts, and flash floods, Sukhu plans to meet the Union home secretary, currently in Shimla, to demand a special relief package.

On the Congress leadership front, Sukhu emphasized unity, stating, “Everyone is equal, and we’ll support the high command’s choice for state president.” He focused on discussing future party programs and Assembly issues with Patil. Social media posts echoed Sukhu’s frustration with the Centre’s inaction, while praising Himachal’s relief efforts. The state continues to grapple with flood-related damages, with locals urging swift central assistance.
