Heavy Security Deployed In Uttam Nagar For Eid After Court Directive

Security tightened in Uttam Nagar for Eid after court order

Security has been significantly tightened in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, with the Delhi Police placing “prime focus” on mosques and other religious sites while conducting intensive foot patrols ahead of Eid‑ul‑Fitr, following a Delhi High Court order directing robust bandobast in the area. The court, led by Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, stressed that Eid is a festival “to rejoice” and that authorities have a duty to prevent any disruption by vandalism, hooliganism or communal provocation.

In response, the Delhi Police has deployed personnel from the Dwarka range along with additional forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in and around Uttam Nagar, setting up more than 100 picket points, rooftop surveillance posts and multi‑layered barricades at key junctions. Special attention is being given to mosques, Eidgahs and other religious sites where large congregations are expected, with regular foot and vehicle patrols forming part of “area domination” measures to deter any untoward incident.

The order comes against the backdrop of communal tensions after the killing of a man in the colony on Holi, which sparked protests and raised fears of possible unrest during Eid‑ul‑Fitr. The High Court directed the police and civil administration to ensure a conducive atmosphere for peaceful and dignified celebrations, clarifying that the special security arrangements should remain in place until the upcoming festival of Ram Navami on March 26.

Social‑media platforms are being closely monitored to curb hate speech and inflammatory content, with authorities saying several posts have already been acted upon or removed to prevent escalation. The police have also held multiple Aman Committee meetings with religious leaders and local representatives to build trust and coordinate preventive measures under the Delhi Police Act and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Residents in Uttam Nagar report that the visible security presence, including barricades and rooftop guards, has created a sense of reassurance, even as the area remains tense after recent communal rhetoric. Civil‑rights groups and community leaders have welcomed the court‑directed plan, calling it a necessary step to protect the right to worship and to ensure that Muslims in the area can celebrate Eid without fear or intimidation.
