Severe heatwave warning issued as temperatures rise across Uttarakhand.
The Uttarakhand administration has issued a severe heat wave warning across several districts, as rising temperatures continue to affect both the plains and hilly regions of the state, prompting officials to urge residents to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Dehradun, temperatures in the plains are expected to cross 40 degrees Celsius, while even hill districts may see temperatures rise above 30 degrees Celsius. The warning covers key districts including Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Uttarkashi, where heat conditions are expected to intensify over the coming days.
Dehradun Meteorological Centre Director C S Tomar said the rising trend in temperatures has already begun impacting daily life in the state capital and surrounding regions. Since Wednesday morning, Dehradun has experienced intense heat conditions, with temperatures steadily climbing and creating discomfort for residents during peak daytime hours.

In response to the heat wave alert, the district administration and health department have placed hospitals and medical units on high alert. Senior Medical Officer Dr S K Jha advised people, especially children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers, to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun between 11 am and 4 pm, when heat conditions are most severe. He also recommended using umbrellas, head coverings, or cloth protection when stepping outside.
Health officials have urged residents to maintain adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water and fluids throughout the day to prevent dehydration. Dr Jha warned that symptoms such as dizziness, headache, vomiting, high fever, or fainting during heat exposure should not be ignored and require immediate medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility to avoid serious complications.
District authorities have appealed to the public to strictly follow safety guidelines and limit non-essential travel during peak heat hours. District Magistrate Savin Bansal has activated the District Emergency Operations Centre to handle heat-related complaints and assistance requests, with helpline numbers and a WhatsApp support line made available for public use. Officials have also issued an orange alert warning of a very high risk of forest fires across Uttarakhand for the next seven days, adding to concerns over environmental and public safety.
