Haryana Police Seize 13 Kg Opium, Attach ₹30 Lakh Drug Property, Arrest Two

Two arrested after major opium seizure in Haryana.

Fatehabad Police have seized more than 13 kilograms of opium and attached property worth approximately ₹30 lakh allegedly acquired through proceeds of the illegal drug trade in two separate operations, dealing a significant blow to an alleged interstate narcotics network. The crackdown also led to the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers from Madhya Pradesh, who were allegedly transporting the contraband to Haryana and Punjab.

Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Nikita Khattar said the operation was carried out by the CIA Ratia team following specific intelligence about an opium consignment being moved from Madhya Pradesh. Acting on the input, police set up a checkpoint near Dhangar Bridge on National Highway-9 and intercepted a Honda City car matching the description provided by the informer. A search of the vehicle allegedly resulted in the recovery of 13.06 kilograms of opium, which police estimated has an illicit market value of nearly ₹70 lakh.

The two occupants of the vehicle—a man and a woman, both residents of Madhya Pradesh—were taken into custody, while the car used to transport the contraband was also seized. Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are continuing their investigation to determine the source of the narcotics and identify other members of the alleged trafficking network.

During the investigation, police also noticed that the Honda City carried stickers of a news channel on both the front and rear of the vehicle. Officials suspect the stickers may have been used to evade routine police checks and reduce suspicion while travelling across states. Investigators are examining whether the stickers were intentionally misused and whether the tactic forms part of a broader modus operandi adopted by the alleged traffickers. Authorities are also probing if any additional individuals or organised networks were involved in facilitating the transportation of the narcotics.

In a parallel action aimed at dismantling the financial backbone of the alleged drug trade, Fatehabad Police froze property worth around ₹30 lakh believed to have been purchased using proceeds generated through illegal narcotics trafficking. The move forms part of the police's strategy to target not only the movement of drugs but also the assets accumulated through criminal activities, thereby weakening organised drug syndicates operating across state borders.

The latest operation underscores Haryana Police's intensified campaign against drug trafficking and organised crime. Officials said intelligence-led operations and inter-state coordination remain central to efforts aimed at curbing the supply of narcotics into the state. Police have appealed to the public to share information related to drug trafficking, reiterating that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in the production, transportation, sale or financing of illegal narcotics. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities expecting further leads as they examine the accused, seized electronic devices and financial transactions linked to the case.
