Haryana Pledges Full Support for Flood-Ravaged Punjab
CM Saini offers aid to crisis-hit state
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini extended unwavering support to Punjab, where devastating floods have submerged villages and displaced thousands across eight districts. Speaking after a state cabinet meeting in Chandigarh, Saini affirmed that Haryana’s 2.8 crore residents stand in solidarity with their neighbors, ready to provide medical aid, relief materials, and any assistance needed to alleviate the crisis.
In a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Saini expressed deep concern over the widespread destruction caused by heavy rainfall and cloudbursts, particularly in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar.
The Sutlej River’s overflow in Fazilka alone has inundated over 20 villages, submerging homes and even a Border Security Force post. Punjab’s government has deployed its entire cabinet to oversee relief efforts, with ministers stationed in affected areas to ensure swift evacuation, shelter, and medical support.
Rescue operations, involving the Indian Army, Border Security Force, Indian Air Force, and National Disaster Response Force, have evacuated hundreds, including elderly residents, children, and expectant mothers, from waterlogged areas. Saini urged Mann to specify any requirements to enable Haryana to deliver timely aid, emphasizing inter-state cooperation.
The floods, worsened by erratic monsoon patterns linked to climate change, have disrupted rail services, closed schools, and damaged crops, with Punjab’s administration vowing to compensate every loss.
